Replacing front main seal - HELP asap!
Hey guys,

Replacing the front main seal on my motor. There was a small oil leak.

Got everything off without a problem except the actual seal. I was about to remove the top and inner most ring of old seal but am not about to remove the outer ring that sits in between the crank and motor! I have tried scraping out as much as I could but it's caked on there. The top of the seal was difficult to get off as it was practically melted onto it and the outer most part of the seal is just the same.

I'm not having any luck getting the outer ring of the old seal out. Any tips other than using a fine screwdriver and elbow grease?

Here's some pics. As you can see, There's no gap where the outer ring of the seal remains.

Please respond asap since I have work tomorrow =/

Is there still a "lip" on that metal? Anything angled at all can go in there and be used to pull the outer ring out. If you tear a section of it out doing that and you're having a hard time, clamp some pliers on that section and just muscle it out. I think you have plenty of material there to go a bit nuts and still not damage the actual mating surface any.

thanks Ben! I was able to get it out. Was really scared it was going to damage the walls but eventually came off after some brute force. Didn't realize the metal piece was part of the seal after the rubber came off.
