replaced tranny problem
ok so i replaced my transmission because of no 3rd gear just sat ther and grinded. now i have everything bolted in and just put in gear oil. the transmission goes into gear while not driving and it looks as tho the clutch is engaging properly and everything. however when i start the car in nuetral of course and take my foot off the clutch i hear a grinding noise, no idea whats its from but it happens when i go to put it in gear and will not catch gears at all. does anybody know what this could possibly be? i dont want to drop the transmission again so any and all other possibilities are generously welcome. btw b13 ser with stock transmission and i believe stock clutch.

You will have to take it back off and check the throw out bearing

You didnt replace the clips on the TOB, did you? Take it back off and replace the TOB and clips.

Sounds like either your TOB is messed up, or you have your clutch pedal way off of adjustment. You might check pedal play and that stuff first, but does sound more like a TOB issue.

The sound is most likely the TOB rattling. Try adjusting the cable first and if that does not fix it you will have to pull the trans again. And yes, you will have to drain it. Use a clean pan and reuse.

How old is the TOB? You might as well replace that while you have it out.

I just reread your initial post. It appears that you don't know about the condition of the clutch, either. Why not spend the money and replace that as well? You are putting in a lot of labor. Anything that blew thrird gear could have done some damage to the clutch disc, too.
