Thread: Any Throttle cable issues in the cold?!

past two days now, my throttle has been stuck open with just a press of the pedal, yesterday it happened while driving, i noticed when downshifting from 5th to 4th, the rpms kept climbing with the clutch pedal pressed...immediatly turned the car off *no rev limit, thx marsh lol* pulled over, played with the throttle cable @ the intake mani got back in the car tested it and it seemed all good, i thought it had something to do with the cold

today i go out, warm up my car a little to prevent what happened the previous day, notice as my cars idling the rev's go up to about 1700, so im like hmm...pop the hood...play with the cable again and it drops back down, get back in the car tried to give it a lil gas and the pedal was firm like it wasnt moving with no force, rinse, wash, repeat tried again pressed a lil harder, and to 10k the rpm's went, shut off and pushed it back in its spot....wtf is the issue?

checked for any fraying or kinking of the wire, unhooked the wire from the tb valve thingamajig, moved the wire back and forth to see if there was any hiccups or non fluidity, moved smooth no problem, played witih the butterfly valve to see if it was moving with any issues, none that i could tell...checked under the pedal to see if there were any grabs or anything behind the pedal..checked out there too....turned the car, noticed no changes cept now my battery/brake/antilock lights are on...did that 9k rev fry my alty? oi vey

Sticky tb? Frozen tb? I have my throttle cable rerouted under the manifold and never had that issue

make sure the bracket isnt moving on the intake mani not sure if it was on there tight enough.

and your idle will be high in this cold weather but should go down once its warmed up

clean the throttle plate, remove the driver side floor mat, and check underside of the pedal for any sharp edges. Then see if the problem goes away.

sharp edges? like frayed wire?

No like the something on the back of the pedal grabbing onto the flooring when you press it down. Either some metal or a screw.

ohhh okay...

Mine did that one time I checked everything and all was fine same as you but when I put the cable back on the throttle body it was a little sticky I sprayed some wd40 in the end of it and it fixed the problem.
