high pressure power steering line removal
anyone ever have trouble removing this? the thread isn't clockwise is it? the bolts are really stuck on there, both the one on the power steering pump and the one next to the strut mount. I used a break bar on the one on the pump and it broke the tab and bent the metal part of the line. so i tried to remove the one on the top. Won't budge. Looks like i'll have to cut the line or use a high impact air gun. I actually used one rated at 150 ft lb, still not budging.

They can be very tight and they should be very tight to prevent leaks. However, yours seem tighter than normal. The one hint I have for the one connected to the power steering pump is to use a 24mm wrench (in addition to the 24mm socket on the banjo bolt) to hold the provision on the P/S pump in place while you loosen the banjo bolt. If you don't, the provision can unscrew from the P/S pump instead of the banjo bolt coming loose. If this happens, you're in a world of annoyance.

It sounds to me like you might have to replace more than you bargained for. =/

Try to be careful and get a good hold on the other end of things (so you don't bend and break more stuff) and give it your best shot. A strong impact gun could be your best friend.

I'm in the middle of some P/S leak repairs on the high pressure side right now. I feel your pain.

I ended up putting a U joint on, the breaker bar between my legs, bear hugging the tire, and turning my body. It worked, but it took a lotta umph.

Well...Im not sure what I'm gonna do. I've tried all the tricks up my sleeves and still won't budge. It musta galled to the washer and fittings. I went out and bot a 550 ft lb impact air gun. If it doesn't work I'm gonna cut the line, but dunno bout the fitting part yet. Only thing I can think of is to heat it up, but since there's fluid in there I can't. The 24mm on the pump is gone I think. I twisted the metal part of the line, so the whole fitting is gone damaged. Either way I have to replace the line. It woulda helped me if feakin Nissan woulda used those threaded fittings for the small metal line connected up top. But they had to make it once piece wit the fitting. So if I ruin that piece, I'll need to either cut that and reconnect it using tube connectors or worse case, I remove it from the steering rack, but that will b a bitch!

When I did my two swaps, I left the banjo bolt as is and used a 24mm to detached the bolt/hose from the bottom. I was afraid I would break the line up top, so I just did it that way to avoid a headache. Worked great.

Yah, I never mess with the line up top if I don't have to. I always only work with the banjo bolt on the bottom of the P/S pump. It is the more sturdy connection. Obviously if you're replacing the line, you have to work at both ends. =(

That's my thing, both of them won't budge! I ended up cutting it, I'll figure out something later...sigh~~

I don't see why the bottom one will not budge. Get a 1/2 ratchet, 1/2 extension, and a 24mm socket and take a handle from a floor jack and use it as a pull bar over the ratchet to break the bolt. Pulling with your body weight should do the trick, but spray the bolt with some WD40 first.

^I did read that, but I was sure what all you did. Can you take a picture of the damage so we can go from there?
