Pretty much this. The BP engine isn't really balanced that great from the factory to start with.

Edit: From the FM website:

We`ve found that really high horsepower Miatas - over 280 hp - have been overwhelming the stock harmonic damper. This can crack the gears on the oil pump as well as damage the bearings from the hammering. We worked with ATI to develop this replacement damper to solve the problem. You can read more about what harmonic dampers do here. We believe in this damper so strongly that it`s standard equipment on every Miata engine we build.

I will be running one on my build. Most all of high rpm, high hp engines have them.

For what it's worth, when switching to the VE oil pump I went with a stock VE harmonic damper instead of the typical aluminum pulley.

I do think you should have a damper on your engine, either stock or ATI.

Alex Chang has one on his VE p10. He did the test fitting in order to get em made. I no longer run aftermarket lightened pulleys after listening to him and kyle davis explain it to me.

The ATI Super Damper isn't a lightweight pulley though.

I've had my UR crank pulley on my car for a LONG time, with no bad results or side affects. I hit 9k often, even though it doesn't feel like it makes power up there, and have often went well over 9k using nitrous when missing shifts at the track. Motor is fine thus far.

^What are you building and what do you plan on revving to?

^Mazworx brought this to my attention after they looked over my build thread.

^How long have you been running this motor?

This is what I've had done on mine... all knife edged & properly balanced, with the UR crank pulley and Fidanza Fly bolted onto the Crank.
Seems like the safest approach IMO...
