Camshaft wear.

After a while dealing with these engines I have never seen something like this in a bone stock motor. What would cause this to happen? Let's bear in mind that I cleaned up before I took the pictures. There were metal shavings every were along with 1 chunk of metal 1 cm in size. That is the exhaust cam by the way.

Jesus.... That's not good at all.

Did you ever swap those in out out? If so... are you sure you followed the bolt down pattern in the FSM?

Maybe someone RTV'd the wrong spot there? They saw the groove and thought "Hey I'll RTV this!".

That's an odd one...

Has to be lack of oil ... probably a plugged oil passage or just ran low on oil at one time ...

This is what I thought when I saw the pictures.

Has to be lack of oil somewhere.

What Ben said could be true, but he thinks of some crazy ideas from time to time.

yeah check to see if your oil squirters are clean. Everytime ive taken oil squirters off i find that at least 2 or 3 of the holes are not shooting enough oil

oil tubes are gunked up. Lack of oil or foreign debris cause this type of damage.

Also if the cams were torqued in the wrong sequence and too high you might have this problem.
