Since you're in California, i don't recommend swapping an OBD1 motor into an OBD2 car.

You will not pass smog since the car is OBD2 and has no OBD2 connector/signal!
Also, you cannot swap an older motor into a newer car out there.

Not sure if you were aware of this.

A <30 second search on this forum:

http://www.sr20-forum.com/general-maintenance/33-howto-1-6-ga16de-2-0-sr20de-t-swap.html

As for OBDII, You need to use the lowport SR20 OBDII head, not the DET head.

Anything else that the guide tells you that you need from an SR swap, you will obviously need the OBDII counterpart. JWT ECU will be the ECU you will need. If you don't care about smog, then you're fine.

Ya I know I'm not worried about smog cuz I just got it done that's y I'm doing the swap. And my ga is taking a poop on me. And thanks cliff I have done many searches and I've seen that same post countless times. I've talked to a good amount of people about this and they said I could get a b14 ser harness that would attach to my underdash harness but it doesn't. And then I was getting a conversion harness to run the obd1 ecu. But now I'm kinda stuck because it's not plug and play.

What do you do when you have to smog next year? take the motor out and put the GA16DE back in?

I'm not sure what to tell you about the interior harness. There is no difference between an OBDII harness interior wise. You need to use an OBDII engine harness.

Ya that's 2 years from now and that's what I'll have to do i don't mind. And to cliff the engine harness I just got is an obd2 engine harness from a 96 ser and it doesn't match my ga underdash wiring.

And please guys don't ask me why I am doing this or tell me what you think I should do unless it pertains to the question. I don't need a bunch of rambling of what I'm going to do anyways I've already thought about this for a long time and I'm going to do it so please if it not about the question don't say anthing.

The only reason i bring it up is because it would be a lot easier to do this job right the first time, rather than kledge together something that's destined to not work later.

I understand if it's a money thing. Whatever. I'll stop buggin ya.

Thanks for the concern neptronix. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but it seems like it happens a lot on the forums when somebody is asking a question and they can never get a straight answer it's always some derivation of their question. But the reason I'm doing this is because I got a killer deal on the swap so I'm just trying to make it work. I did think about getting a u13 or a usdm sr20 for obd2 but I don't have much money and I figured I already have an engine might as well try to make it work.

I know what you mean. I was hoping you were just misinformed and didn't know. I see a lot of posts about CA smog issues after doing weird swaps or emissions equip. removal on car forums, so i figured i'd do you a favor if you weren't aware.

Anyways, good luck with that.
