Gearbox issue - N15 Rally Almera GTI - SR20DE - GA16DE
HI,
I am a Norwegian rally driver running a Nissan N15 Almera GTI (1999) with a SR20DE on a tight budget..
I Started in August 2009, and it is going well :o) we are beating other Almeras, but Bmw M3s is a struggle.. Same with heavy tuned Volvos (250 hp)..
You can see some videos on my YouTube & facebook (in Norwegian only) as you wish. Ref. Links below.

Nissan Pulsar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However, I need more power and better ratios on the gearbox, and your expertise :o)

This Tread Gearbox issue:
Apparently, a Nissan Primera W10 (station wagon) with engine GA16DE built in Japan (1990-1998), the Primera P10 (4 doors) is built in England. Has a wanted gearbox..
The gearbox fitted to this engine GA16DE has shorter ratios and lower top speed.
1. Can this one be swopped with min existing gearbox ?
2. Will my existing aftermarket Limited slip diff (with higher ratio) fit into this GA16DE-gearbox ?
3. What about driveshafts and location of starter etc ?
4. I see in other treads that you ref. to older and newer gearbox design (newer=stronger) is the above GA16DE gearbox the old version.. ?
5. My engine is currently standard GTI (SR20DE-143 hp) except other cams (only one type is available to the SR20DE GTI head apparently) K&N filter + rev. Limiter to 7500 revs. Header and open pipe with one open muffler at the end... so this is not a high torque engine.. (150 hp at the wheels 7-7.500 rev) modifications to come will be : adjustable camshaft timing and rev limit removed or moved to 8500 revs. Do you foresee significant problems with the proposed gearbox.

No a ga16 gear box will not fit an sr20. You need to look for an sr16ve tranny, it has shorter gear ratios and is a direct drop in, it also has a lsd in it.

I think it's a direct drop in, if a b13 can use a p11/p10 tranny i see no reason why it wouldn't work the other way....

here is more info on available gearboxes

There is a company in Austalia that makes custom grind gears and ratio's for sr20 gearbox's. I was going to get a set of straight cut gears for my box so it could handle some major power (over 600whp) but it will run $4000 USD
However talking stock box's the b13 se-r box has shorter gears than the primera box. My P11 has way longer gears than my b13 does so I would say if you want shorter gears don't use the p10 or p11 box and use a b13 or a sr16 box depending on availability and price.

I think you have mixed info about transmissions etc...

W10 trans from euro Primera combi has shorter final gear - 4.375. Thats cheap way to get a little better trans.
Stock SR20DE in Almera only revs to 6950rpm.
You cant rev stock SR20DE to 8500rpm or so with stock springs and its not worth anyway, because your peak power is around 6000rpm.

If i was you i would but Pulsar VZ-R gearbox which comes with LSD in stock, 4.437 FD and shorter 1-2-3.
Custom gears and LSD cost much more and if you are on budget..
