Thread: Main Bearing Cap Question

Hey fellas I was looking at my FSM. I was looking at the Engine Assembly section. In the book they have the following sentence on page EM-57.

"Prior to tightening bearing cap bolts, place bearing cap in its proper position by shifting crankshaft in the axial direction".

Just wondering what direction this is supposed to be. In/out, or something else.

I know this is probably a very newb question, but it is an important one well at least to me.

That's just to make sure they are centered up, as in the bolt holes. I just tap the crank on both sides with a rubber mallet.

Swiss is right. Tap it back and forth to get get it centered.
