I'm putting my money on air in the coolant system or fans operating at lower speeds than normal (look like they are working but aren't spinning as fast as they should. When the fans kick in it should sound like a wind tunnel under the hood. Do you have one radiator fan or two? A/C yes or no?

two radiator fans, definately have A/C cooling me off...

perhaps you're right on the money about those fans not working as good as they should..

any suggestions on a low profile high CFM fan??

Yeah, sounds like air in system to me. Aside from the obvious Koyo, new fans, higher pressure radiator cap, and manual override (which, as you said are all bandaid-like) you might also try a Nismo t-stat. The stock gauge is junk. I had my aftermarket gauge up to 260ish and the stock gauge still showed only SLIGHTLY higher than "normal" Definitely get one of those so you know for sure. I think the fans should kick on at 210 and off around 190? Straight water is also a good idea if you're going to have that many 90+ days. If only a few days like that, I'd just deal with it. I haven't had a problem with my water/coolant overheating... more an issue of my oil overheating lately

every one has mentioned everything else but the WP, if you replaced everything but the WP why not give it a shot

only because I've heard that when they fail they are VERY loud and you'll know something is up....

but if you're suggesting a water pump that is only operating at something less thn 100% but not completely failed, then I see your point..

Does anyone know if these water pumps work at a significantly degraded level before failing??

Nope, mine just died, didn't degrade at all. One day it just started making horrible noise and I replaced it.

As far as the high cfm slim fans, I bought mine from GFD pretty cheap. Think they were $30 each for the 12" slim fans?

if you jumped threw all the hoops why not cross the finsh line...

when any of my cars(non SER, because i havent had those issues) have had over heating issues the WP is one of the main things ill change

wow how could i forget. when i had my old b13, it would start to get hot at idle, this went on for about 2 days and i couldn't figure it out , until i was driving home from work and all of a sudden my wp belt came off...

i was like wtf?? pulled over and my wp pulley had seized up, wouldn't turn at all, bearings were done.

i changed the wp , added coolant and bled, no more overheating

maybe your wp is on it's way out
