FTDI232 Drivers can brick your USB to Serial Adapters
FTDI decided to be evil and released a patch via MS Updates that will brick any counterfeit FTDI 232 chips. Why is this here and not in the computer Off topic? Well because the FTDI 232 chip is used in many places, especially when you start dealing with ECU tuning.

If your ECU daughterboard has a counterfiet chip, it might get bricked next time you plug it into your computer, this is just a small example Serial to USB adapters are used everywhere.

As long as they all use legit chips we should be fine . But there is always a risk. Also if you use serial to usb adapters for say your wideband, it might be safer not to install that driver...
