Nissan Maxima questions
My neighbor has a 2005 or thereabouts Maxima with the VQ35, long moonroof, etc.

I'm not sure of the model number, but it's loaded.

Anyhow, he had a mechanic take care of the timing chain and tensioners/etc. as the tensioner was shot and chain guides were broken thus a VERY noisy motor.

They replaced the chain, guides, tensioner, and put everything back together and now he has some CEL's.

Symptom in addition to CEL's: When warm, car will not start with just the key. You need to step on the gas to get the car to start. This was never an issue prior to the work being performed. Mechanic has been his friend for many years and has been a mechanic for 20+ and cannot figure out what is going on.

Codes:

P0300 - Multi Cyl Misfire
V1001 - CAN Comms
V1000 - CAN Comms
P1122 - ETC Function
P1126 - ETC Mot PWR

Any help is appreciated!

I assume that the 1126 and 1122 are inter-related, as if there's not motor power, of course the function will cease?

I ended up just pulling the FSM for it from another forum. Seems most of the codes are inter-related.

this is one of the dne maxima guys said.

" The mechanic put it together wrong. It is off on timing. Could be only one tooth on the timing chain but I don't know. It it is off too much then it has bent valves."

If i had to guess then I would say 1122 and 1126 would be for Electronic throttle Control, maybe throttle body gone bad or going bad.Is this car drive by wire ?
What else was done to the car besides the timing chain job ?

V1001 and V1000 would be a result of lack of communication between the vehicle computers.CAN(Colsed Area Network) This he shouldn't be too woried about yet.

P0300 For this one, a Power balance test can be done with consult to see eactly which coils are messing up. If not consult, then Nissan data scan if that feature is available (never used it). This might be the spark plugs or faulty coils. Coils can be checked, also wiring checked over the ssee if they are correctly plugged in. Spark plugs can be changed also to help diagnosis.

Sleepy and tired now. I'll check in tomorrow

The main issue they had with the car is that they couldn't connect to the ECU with Consult/II/III to clear any of the codes or find out what was actually going on. Nissan said is was the ECM, but I call bullshit because the car drives fine.

Had the same po300 code on my 3.5 swapped maxima. Multiple cylinder misfire usually leads back to timing being off a tooth or so. Car will run, just wont run as hard as it should. Definitely get it re-aligned though. Those maxima motors are interference motors and don't like being off timing. Going to have issues down the road if it's not fixed soon.
