VE swap
I have a '99 g20t. How difficult/costly is it to put a VE in this car verses the performance benefits of the swap?

Engine should cost like $800 or so. The swap process for the p10 and b14 are like identical so I'm assuming that it isn't that much different. You also need a few extra parts but nothing expensive, so you are looking at about $1000 total.

Currently doing the same swap on the same car. Its that same as a b chasis. Only thing is there are about 5 or 6 egr sensors that wont be used. I dont know what effect those would have on driveablity. I just got a chipped ecu, hopefully that will eliminate any cel codes. Price is pretty much what ^ he quoted.

To be frank, VE swap on P11's wont get you the same results as a VE swap on a lighter P10 or B14. I was very disappointed with the performance results of a VE in my P11 and quickly went back to being turbo...

I'd say unless your current DE motor has a ton of miles, is running poorly, or on it's way out, go with boost instead if your looking for more speed. As Vadim said he was disappointed, I have VE in a car that weighs 7 or 800lbs less than his, and I see what he is getting at.

What's funny is that today's VE's with bolt ons in strange way somewhat mirrors modifying the DE's back in the late 90's early 00's - eventually you hit the "limit of bolt-ons" - and with VE swaps with the regular I/H/E/C/ECU/LightFly/Modded TB etc. you hit a wall in the range of 220WHP with a great tune, unless you have seriousssss cash to start taking the motor apart and such and doing internal work. But back 12 years ago it was about 150whp in the DE's with all of those things done, just usually a 2.5" exhaust and JWT cams instead of the N1's.

I was already going to wait til the de is on it's last legs. It's 179k now so I'm sure It's got plenty more life in it. What would you recommend for inexpensive mods on the de for horsepower and/or torque? Not looking to spend a whole lot on it yet and I'd like to keep it somewhat easy to pass CA smog...

I am not too familiar with California laws, but assuming your car is tuned up, you'd pass with JWT cams, UR pulleys and an already CARB approved JWT popcharger. When you start messing with the exhaust/header and ECU that's when you run into smog trouble.

p.s. get the parts used and save a lot. keep checking the classifieds

no prob. JWT S3 cams, used, go for like 350ish. add about 20peak HP which is a great mod. combine that with an intake and some pulleys, you'd feel a nice difference.

Hey so how much does a used jwt pop charger usually go for? Just did a spectre intake kit (with some of my own super cheap mods) but this dude has a jwt pop charger and he's asking for an offer. Again... don't have a lot of $$$ (probably never will, I got a 2 year old lol). Just asking you cuz I trust your opinion. Been reading a lot of your posts and you're pretty on point... look for my pics on my 'new member' post and tell me if I got the right idea. You'll see what I'm talking about....
