X-Trail GT turbo question
Hi guys, need some help here as no mechanic has been able to fix this.

I have a 2001 X-trail GT Turbo, but it is over boosting and not shifting.
So far disconnecting the bov vacuum for testing, it holds a steady 8psi. But once plugged in it over boosts. Also we have changed the BOV as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

For overboosting issues, I'd look at the wastegate and move backward from there.
However, there is probably more to be learned when we consider the transmission issue. I'm not familiar with automatics (or is it a CVT?) so I wouldn't know where to look there.
It could be the whole thing is an ECU issue...

Edit: I'm not sure why you're messing with the BOV at all? Unless we have a terminology mix-up? BOV for us is on the charge pipes and lets off boost pressure when the throttle is closed. Wastegate for us is the internal flapper valve on the exhaust side that lets exhaust by-pass the hot side of the turbo and controls the level of boost created.

Speaking of terminology. When you say "overboosting" do you mean the boost pressure is consistently too high when wide-open-throttle? Or are you talking about compressor surge (the chuffing noise created when the throttle plate is closed)?

I had issues with mine over boosting and the actuater diaphram had collapsed.
