Damage of GTiR turbo - repair opinions?
Hello everyone... ive got this GTiR turbo in my hands and clearly it has "some" damage. It has both radial and axial play.

Damaged wheel (doesnt touch the housing, maybe ate something?) and 3 cracks around wastegate

Other side

Intake wheel - doesnt touch housing either

Should I buy new turbine shaft, rebuild kit and get everything balanced? I will be grateful for any opinion. Thanks

If the cost exceeds that of a new unit then I wouldnt bother. However if it exceeds the cost of a used unit but not a new unit then yes have it rebuilt.

The cracks in the hot-side don't bother me too much. Seems to be par for the coarse. The rest of it though is obviously in need of some TLC. I have no idea if the cost is worth it or not.

Turbo was free, that give me some room for repair cost. Ive found turbine shaft for ~170usd, rebuild kit for ~50usd and got quoted ~120usd for balancing. Thats about price of another used turbo.

If those prices are good and the people doing the balancing do find anything else really wrong with it I would go a head and do that. You won't know whats wrong with a $340 used turbo. You could also probably find or order a new hot side that might be worth the extra piece of mind.

Thats my point. Id rather rebuild it and have functional turbo than buying another used one.

Does anybody know if GTiR turbine wheel is special or its same with any other Nissan T25/T28? T25 T28 Turbine Shaft Wheel SR20DET CA18DET RB26 | eBay

thanks

Pull it apart trim down the broken turbine parts and build a mini jet engine. That turbo is done. Don't put any money into it you can buy a new or used one for less.
