SR20DET from JWT C1 to C2 with GT2860RS. Good or bad idea?
Hi!

I currently have a SR20DET with stock internals where I installed a set of JWT C1 cams, ARP studs on head and VVL headgasket. It has a JWT computer programmed for turbo, nismo 740cc and Z32 maf. Engine is being pushed with an original Garrett GT2860RS (coach potatoe)

The car feels pretty well and push real had, idle feels pretty stock with the C1 and it can be used for daily drive without hesitation...

When I bought the C1, I had S4 and Ben Pila from JWT, when I asked I wanted to change to bigger cam, that it was better to go with the C1 instead of the C2 so I bought the C1 with S&R from them

Now, I am wondering and thinking about if I did the right choice or not and as a forum member is selling a set of C2 it might be a good time to go to this upgrade unless being told by mayority no to do so.

What do you think?

C2's would be too big for the 2860 or any t2 for that matter. I used C2's on my T67 h.o. setup with .82 turbine housing. They did really really well and still made power all the way to 9200 rpm. They need a setup that flows really well and keeps backpressure low. C2's are for crazy topend power something the 2860 will not be able to do.

Keep your C1's man and spend money elsewhere.

forgive me if im wrong but c2 cam specs are not to far off from sr16ve cam specs, c2's actually have a tiny bit more lift and less duration. its been proven around this way atleast, that upgrading to sr16ve cams from stock sr20ve cams with just a t28 made huge gains in the higher rpm's. even on a DET, jumpin up to some S4's from stock cams added some 30+ whp to t28 sr20det. personally dont think youll run out of breath with your disco man..more spool time would be my only concern with this combo.

Thank you guys. These are the kind of opinions I was looking for.

So your basically saying that if I want more power I better go with a bigger turbo instead of just adding more cams.

I just changed the killer part of my current setup, the stock W10 avenir manifold, removed it and I just added an autobann88 turbo header. I can't find a good but not that expensive FWD 3" O2 housing for my GT2860rs so i'm using the stock , the downpipe and piping is 3" mandrel straight muffler.

Anyone knows of someone selling a 3" O2 housing for the fwd set up?

Yes, TurboFX on this forum sells many excellent j-pipe solutions, including a 3" outlet one I believe. Any of them would be a huge upgrade though.

How about intake manifold? I think that's your last place to modify keeping the 2860.

Yeap, It seems so far it's doing a pretty good job. My main problems are on the exhaust part where everytime I remove the head for whatever the reason it is, I see signs of detonation or knocking ONLY on the exhaust side and that should be due restriction of exhaust flow.

With the turbo header and a 02 housing I can imagine this problem will be solved and my car will breath much better
