The VET pistons are coated from factory from what I've seen. Also, the rings are not designed for high rpm, and tend to suffer from a bit of ring flutter. Of course, I cannot attest to this personally. Just going from a local tuner's experience with them.

VET vrs DET pistons
What's the difference between SR20VET & SR20DET pistons other than the valve relief on the VET?

Different compression?

My build consists of DET block, crank & rods with 2L ve head & cams.

yes the compression is based off the ve head not just in the valve reliefs. If you were to throw ve specific 8.5:1 pistons into a det motor with a de/det head, they would actually be about 7.8:1 or so.

If your using the VE head the compression should remain as listed. Doesnt matter if its a de/det block. Has nothing to do with it.

So will they be more compression than the det pistons?

If you were to use det pistons with a ve head the compression will go up .7 or so. No they will be less compression than the det pistons. Like I said, if you were to take those ve pistons and put them into a de/det motor for example 8.5:1 VE specific pistons they would be about 7.8:1 in a de/det motor and 8.5:1 in a VE motor. 8.5:1 DE/DET pistons in a DE/DET is just that, 8.5:1 and in a ve motor about 9.2:1.

Alright so VET pistons in my build will be 8.5:1 and DET pistons will be 9.2:1?

Just thinking on what pistons to use in my VET build - Thanks

pTen to answer your question from the Forum Chat:

DET Pistons in a DE/RR Head: 8.5:1
DE Pistons in a DE/RR head: 9.5:1
VE Pistons in a VE Head: 10.3:1

DE Pistons in VE Head: 10.3:1 (same comp as stock VE, but you get the benifit of stronger pistons)
DET Pistons in VE Head: 9.2:1-9.3:1

I thought he meant actual VET pistons?

vet is 9:1 and they also have a thicker headgasket.

iirc, det pistons in a ve with vet headgasket is like 9.1:1
