Leave your Intake mani , you are RWD, try to tackle somewhere else like using a good Tubular Manifold with the same Turbo even its a Ebay type one, probably also a Dump Tube (i believe that will work there) and see if the car will work better.

Because i Bet you will be going with a Larger Turbo One Day

Over the winter next step is a lager turbo with a proper manifold, definitively, but....

....my aim for this season is to show the benefit of the VE-Concept over the DET with the same turbo+manifold setup i used on my DET. Unfortunately my VE comes on boost 400rpm later and mid range torque is allot worse at same boost levels. My DET makes 345lft@18psi and my VE 303lbft@18psi.
I im sure that the xtrail-engine makes good mid-range torque, the only real difference to my setup is the intake manifold.

On the other hand there are plenty of dynosheet of VE-Ts using the stock long-runner intake with also low torque numbers. This is confusing for me.

One advantage of the s14 DET is the VCT, i would never deactivate it. If you switch it off you really feel and measure a lack of spool and low-mid-power. It is activatet from appr. 1500rpm to apr. 5700 RPM, beyond that it switches back from 20° overlap to the conservative 0° overlap". This brings me 15psi of boost in 5th gear @2800rpm with the 2871 .64 !!!! Its like driving a modern turbodiesel.

And this behavior is absolutely absent on my VE-T, i want my midrange-punch back

That is one fine looking car sir.

Cheers for that!

Trust me and Try a Tubular and even a .86 Backend for your turbo,
my buddies with a VE Head ,Det Bottom End with t3t4 used a log mani with .63 Back and they said the DET Pulled Stronger as your case in Midrange
When they Tried a Tubular and Larger Back end with same Compressor setup , it pulled really hard in midrange

on 17psi the tubular mani and larger back felt as strong as the log mani with smaller back on 22psi, so leave that baddass intake , in dying for one , wanna sell me yours then? lol, its gonna come in handy when you go for some more power.

tbh i have seen a few vet's make similar torque to power, but not on stock ve cams. It makes sense too, you think the ve ex low lobe is like 6 something mm lift.

thanks for your input guys, at the end of the season i will do the next machanical steps on this motor, but for now i drive it and keep on working on the tune. On the weekend i will dyno it again to see how much mid-range i gained with an updated tune. I guess plus 7 % of torque and 3%topend.

I made gps-stated 180mph yesterday with my current tune but knock values went too high, so i retarded timing a little.

woooo, i adore topspeed trials....i will register for the next texas-mile event immediately in the Garrett Gt28-rooky-class :-)

little update here:

due to the hot summer-temperatures i had water temp issues with my still stock watercooler when pushing the motor hard. Anyway i gained some midrange torque and a little topend power, now i should have 390-395 flwhp @18psi. Here is a topspeedrun-video with gps-speedo reaching 290km/h (181mph) before i had to break because of traffic. Also the watertemp already climbed over 100°C and the PFC began to pull timing and giving more fuel. I will try again when its not so hot outside.
Updated Dynorun also stands on the plan.

I now made over 3000miles with the motor, since the last 3 month. I really like my VE-T

That's a good looking/sounding/driving 240 you have there.

Just curious, do you know why your check engine light flashes? I noticed it in the video, and was wondering if you knew why.

Yo thats Cool , lets see a Vid of a stand still then pull off runs running out the gears, in and probably out the car, better yet if you had a GTECH Pro to get your 1/4mile average !!

It's a PFC thing. it's kind of like a built in knock light.
