noise coming from engine bay, what does a tranny bearing thats dead sound like?
hey all sorry for the confusing title. this car is killing me. i have been having a noise, thought it was near the wheels so i change out everything but the inner tie rods and the shocks. still there. so now im wondering in the tranny what bearings can go bad. i have had the car about 50k miles, came with the clutch it has and now im getting like a knocking/tapping/thunking on accel. if i get off the gas or push the clutch it goes away. nothing at idle in gear or not. so im about to throw the damn car out lol. need some tranny advice could it be the throwout or pilot? please help im at the end of my rope.

Sounds like the TOB if you engage the clutch and it goes away

Could be hard to say though. Just getting off the gas makes it go away. Does that still sound like the throw out bearing? And also no noise at idle as a note.

im having a similar issue, at idle it sounds like and engine knock but if you press the clutch in it goes away. kinda comes and goes, not always constant. I do believe its the input shaft bearing or possibly the throw out bearing. ive never heard a T/O bearing make a knocking noise like that so im going with the input shaft bearing. my second gear grinds pretty bad from time to time and always on a down shift, so either way its going to have to be opened up and gone through.

cv axle.
I have had this problem with new remans more than once.
Also if your car is too low it will ruin them fasater, and the first sign is the knocking noise like you described.
Last year at the convention roadcourse day, my nx driverside axle ate itself up form the car being too low,and the axle being old.
After I got home,I swapped in a new one and I have put 6000 miles on it since.

Throw out bearing, throw out bearing, throw out bearing.
Minimonsters b15 did the exact same thing. I kept telling him it was the throw out bearing. He ended up selling the trans at a massive discount, and when the guy that bought it pulled the transmission, he found a bad throw out bearing.

the throw out bearing sits/slides on the input shaft, no need to disassemble the whole trannie to find that out. if anything it just needs a little grease. but still, a t/o bearing making a knocking noise... that's a tough pill to swallow.

I had a similar issue in a friends Trans, the input shaft bearing would make noise with the clutch engaged in any gear and even neutral. The throw out bearing makes noise with the clutch pressed in (disengaged). We replaced it and never herd the noise again.

Well damn imisread your description, disregard my previous post. Sorry guys. But now that i think about it, the input shaft bearing could be in the early stages of going out, when you put load on the bearing it would probably make more noise. The one i replaced made noise even at idle and when we took it out all the rollers feel out of the casing.

Push the clutch in. If the noise goes away, its the tob.
