Default So upset with myself... :(

So I took her to the new track last night, and decided to run it a couple of times. It's been many years since actually ran on a REAL track, so my R/T was pretty awful the first time around, and still not that good the second time around. Wheel hop all over the damn place, absolutely no traction in first gear, or half of second. They were spraying VHT, but I was running on street tires and they weren't deflated. Both runs were pre-loaded launches at about 3500~3800rpm.

Tree times are .400, just for reference

First:
1.279 reaction time (Wasn't even paying attention to the tree )
2.78 60' time
90.91 trap speed
15.31 1/4mi. time

Second:
.639 reaction time
2.89 60' time
92.55 trap speed
15.54 1/4mi. time

Obviously, driver skill has SOME to do with it, but I think this just further confirms that there are hidden issues with this motor. Good thing she's coming out. I don't want any more headaches.

2.8 60' times? The burnout box should be behind you once you get to the tree! You can probably get better 60' times babying the car off the line at idle.

Yeah, the track is new, so I'm still getting used to it. I didn't deflate the tires, or anything like that. Just pre-loaded and launched. I was so pissed after the first run, I was tempted to run home and get the slicks, but I can't run slicks until I get extended studs in the front.

Oh yeah, and the elevation at the track is around 4100ft, and I'm running 91 octane pump piss. Just thought I would throw that in there.

Those are decent times for a Kia Optima.

That's not funny!

What was really funny, is I ran against a Civic hatchback... He pulled a 17 or something.

In your turbo SE-R?

Some practice is needed. As long as you had fun that is all that matters.

I ran a 16 with my DD with bolt ons. I babied the crap out of it though. I was pulling 60 foot times like you though. I am going to go back once I get my new clutch, PP and flywheel in from that guy above me. I just hope to run a 14 and a 13 with the 100 shot on street tires.

Yessir. The T25 turbo setup. Thing is, that I'm 110% certain that it's either the stock clutch that isn't holding (though it doesn't feel like it slips at all), or the motor seriously is on it's last leg. In all seriousness, this car even with 2.8 60' times should be pulling 14's easy.

Something has never felt right with it, and I am SOOOO glad I'm pulling the motor out. At the same time, I've just ordered standard size Supertech valves, because I'm pretty sure I'm likely to find bent ones upon inspection.

It was definitely fun, but a letdown at the same time. I was so pissed that I wasn't even paying attention the first run, that when I ran the second run I got a good launch, and spun first and half of second. My times were actually better the first time around than the second time around

Does your 98 still have open diff and the low rev limit? Its not that bad. You've got the whole season in front of you.

Yeah, open diff that I know of (still not 100% sure, haven't looked in depth at the P11 tranny that's in there), and rev limit set to 8K. Take it to about 7500 rpm though.

Season or not, the old motor's coming out and the new hotness is going in

Wow this is turbo I thought it was NA. What psi are you running it at. You may want to diagnosis just to get used to it. You dont want to start running from problems with your big turbo setup your putting in.

3500~3800rpm on street tyres for a lauch is way to high, hence the rubbish 0-60.

Try around 1500rpm. Trap speed is still low for a turbo motor.

Stock boost levels for the W11. Like 9.4psi or somewhere around there. My diagnosis is pulling the motor, to look at the internals. I'm telling you, she's shot somewhere, and I just haven't spotted it yet. Lets put it this way... The ECU doesn't even control the idle, which would mean vacuum leak, but every possible component/line according to vacuum has been replaced. I'm thinking valves from cam install way back when, or rings on pistons are shot. Remember, I've always had LOOOOWWW chamber compression, compared to other healthy motors. 150 across the board, which is borderline what the FSM indicates as a healthy motor (they state 149 as being the lowest value).

I pre-load any lower than 3000, and the car literally bogs off the line, and stumbles on itself. At the previous track, I had no issues with this launch RPM. I think it was the fact that I was on a new track, and they had just laid down VHT like 4 runs before me. I was thinking I guess that the VHT was going to help me SOMEWHAT. Seems like it did nothing.

Oh yeah, and my car IDLES at 1500. Sometimes 2K, but most of the time 1500. If the ECU could even control idle, that'd be great. It's okay though. This motor is GONE.
