I mean dont get me wrong. Itll still be fun to go to the track with street tires. But youll be left wanting WAAAY more the next time you come out cause you know what the car can do. That and the fact that the guys with slicks and less power will be leaving you at the line. Then youll try to break the gas pedal palying catch up.

To put this into perspective. My daily drive tires are drag radials ON THE STREET in the summer. I can go out like a sucka lol. I hate the guys that say they have xxxwhp and then when you race them all they do is spin. With these cars were already down because of the layout. So you have to run sticky tires! Drag radials are only $250 for a set of two so its not that bad and once you get a set you will fall in love with the car all over again!

...and ive been spending waaaay to much time on this forum again lol!

When you go to the track on street tires, one of two different things are going to happen.

1. You'll have the time of your life, driving the shit out of your car, and not having to worry about cops bothering you. You'll make pass after pass, trying different things to see what's faster. You'll grin from ear to ear, not realizing that you will soon be addicted to drag racing.

2. You'll get pissed off that your car does nothing but spin, and decide that you're never coming back to the stupid drag strip.

i havent had much luck with my 225 50 15 BFG's they do nothing but spin, they hook up ok inm third gear at the track strip but on the streets i can rip them off from a third gear roll, i would do nothing but slicks at the track

quite insane the strip would have worse traction than on the street...this is something I never would have thought about until I made this thread.

When you see 1/4 times in magazines for factory-spec cars, was that done w/drag slicks or on a street-paved road?

Most of those cars don't have enough power to rip the tires in third gear so they won't spin as much. Another thing you have to look at is our trannies don't like wheel spin. If you spin second and then go to third the wheel speed is a lot faster than the actual speed your going so the sudden change puts more stress on third gear and that's what causes the gear to go bye bye.

Damn it Gomba, we need to go in and buy some communal slicks or drag radials....I'm thinking to M/T's drag radials would be good. I should have some spare B14 wheels..

Honestly guys, driving habits will need fixing then. With a beefy BFG DR or MT tire, even with a 400whp car, you should be able to control it. I know if you romp the hell out of the throttle, yeah its going to shred the tires. You just have to control it with your foot. I've had quick turbo setups in my past and yeah, if I wanted to light the tires up, I could. Its just a matter of feathering that throttle giving the tires a second to hook. Eh, what do I know, lol.

On my last setup I went to the track to get some times and it turns out with the bigger turbo at only 12psi and I went up on times not down compared to my T28 setup making 283whp due to wheelspin...

You can go to the track but expect nothing impressive of the times if you cant get it to hook. At 12psi I had to control the throttle in 3rd gear, I couldnt give it full throttle until 4th, so times went up not down, and I left the track frustrated. That was on 17 inch rims and only 12 pounds of boost

Maybe we can get a used pair on CL for cheap. How much would that cost?
