End of 1/4 mile question?
At the end of your 1/4 mile pass do you...

1: Push in the clutch letting the rpms drop to idle and shift to neutral, then brake.

2: Let off the gas and apply brakes while down shifting to stop.

3: Turn the car off and coast using only the brakes to stop you.

4: Other.

Which one do you use and why?

Basically do you think it is better to have your engine go from WOT and high RPM's to nothing? Or slowly bring them back down, like a cool down?

It may seem like an insignificant portion of the run, but i was wondering if there is a reason for the different methods.

Thanks guys,

Dustin

i normally put it in neutral and let it coast..... i vote 1

id say 3 is a big no no, the car has to cool down and turning it off doesnt let fluid flow to cool things down

I upshift letting the gas off and then I gently apply brakes

push the clutch in and use the brakes to stop you, we will see how well that works when im trapping 130mph+ hahaha Neways yeah definetly dont do number 3 lol if anything downshifting might help slow you down as well especially if you trap high but if you have good brakes there should be no trouble just coasting it in neutral

Depending on where in 130+mph ranges you're in, your sentra's going to need some heavy modification

I generally just drop into neutral and use the big brakes to stop me. It's a 1/2mi. trek at 20~25mph from the end of the track back to the staging area. enough time IMO to have the car relax a bit.

Slip it into neutral without using the clutch and coast to the turn off point off the quarter mile and then start using the brakes when I get to that point after the car has slowed down a bit.

I leave it in gear and get on the brakes. Till I feel down shifting is appropriate (around 2-2.5kRPM) to keep in 2nd to ride back around.

yeah plan on being to low to mid 130's range. I think 500whp in a 2k lb car should get me there pretty easily, haha but yeah im gonna be installing a set of nx2k brakes with ss lines cuz any hard runs say from 120+ and i hit the brakes not there is not much braking going on and a hell of a lot of fade and soft pedal, haha not good. I know when i was hitting 118mph in the 1/4 mile it was pretty hard to stop without really having to hit the brakes hard. Id much rather just be comfortable stopping before running those speeds.

If you shut off your car at the end of a quarter someone behind you is bound to slam into you. DANGEROUS!!!!!
