I just got some 23/8/13 MH slicks on some gold lensos. They fit awesome and hook up even better.
My question is me having a FWD car am i required to have extended studs to run on the track with slicks? I tried searching, no real answer. Anyone with a NHRA rulebook please help. Also what PSI range should i run these at? |

i dont see why you would need longer wheel studs if you are using all the threads on the lugnuts

To pass inspection. Although sounds like this rule accomplishes nothing, as I could glue on a open lugnut and broken wheel stud just as easily.
What about those with extended wheel studs and closed lug nuts? Seems like the rule should at least read "open lug nuts required" not "extended studs required" since they are concerned about making sure there is a wheel stud there. What about cars with wheel bolts (BMWs)? Sorry, I just like to pick rules apart.

Lenso's on our cars should DEFINITELY have extended wheel studs. You're only on the OEM wheel studs by about 3~5 threads with open face lug nuts, if that. Look around for the picture I posted, that's with the wheel bolted all the way to the hub, no spacers.

Come from Yard.

Primary purpose is way back when 50's, 60's. The slicks would sheer off the wheel studs during a burn out or a launch and loose a wheel turning the car 90* into the crowd or other car.

UPDATE
Well i got the extended studs installed and the slicks worked awesome. Transmission not so much... My first run i rolled out of the hole and hit it in 1st, wheel hop went crazy and before i could push in the clutch to stop it the engine shut off and i coasted off to the side. I get out and all i see is my tranny leaking all of its fluid onto the very sticky track that John Force ran on the weekend before. So i get the car back to the pits and jack it up and see that there is a crack from the passenger axle seal all the way down and around where the shift linkage connects. So what did i do????? being that i paid alot of money for the track rental and money for renting a trailer and all the other stuff that comes along with it, i decided to drain the rest of the fluid and jb weld the crack so it wouldnt leak at all and run it dry. I staged up, slowly roll off 1st, slowly shift into second, i gave second a little throttle, slowly shifted into 3rd and smacked it all threw 3rd and beginning of 4th. End result. I went 14.1 @ 113MPH My first 1/4 mile pass, and my last for a while. Thanks for reading... If you have a spare tranny you want to sell LMK. |
