The GTiR had so many design flaws--suspension, IC placement, engine oiling, fragile transmission and service issues with some components. you have to remember that rallying is the worst off road accident of you life for 8 hrs a day, one week at a time!
The abuse these cars take during one event is truly unbelievable at the WRC level!
Think about the cost of the parts and what we spend on our cars:
engine--25-40,000 for Gr A, and people try to lowball built engines because they can buy a VE for $900 and make the same HP--It isn't the same!!
gearbox--15-25,000, and we scrounge to find a B15 box for less than $1000
suspension--10-12,000 and we argue over CSK or coilovers for @ $1000 or less
It starts to add up!
And that was for Gr A (which was what GTiR did) the modern WRC cars (well, up until 2-3 yrs ago) were upwards of $750,000 per car! The Gr A cars were barely over $150,000.
Hell, look at the Almera--it's almost 13 years old and they still want nearly $80,000 for it! Just think what kind of car you could build or buy for that!
