My knees aren't very flexible and I usually end up using the sides of my feet to "heel-toe" and in most cases a wider shoe comes in handy. I have a pair of Puma SpeedCats and as much as I love them, they are just too thin when I drive my Z, my foot always manages to go between the pedals. On my se-r though, they are nearly perfect.

Since I'm hardly a collector, I don't have a pair for every car, not that baller But I do find that my Nike Air Force One's do nicely in the Z.

Yeah that is what I am going for also use the sides of my feet. I saw some old Skip Barber video that said that was the proper way to heel toe. It was a really old video though. It must have came out on VHS and got transfered from the only remaining 20 year old original VHS copy directly to DVD.

FORZWIN what size shoe do you wear for reference?

Depends. My AF1's are 10's but my puma's are 11's. It varies but usually around 10-11. I just bought a pair of Puma Structure Cats in black leather:

I tried them on about a year ago and fell in love. I came back a week later to buy them and they were discontinued I stumbled upon them on ebay yesterday so I had to get them.

Any flat soled shoe. Vans classic soles are great to drive in and wear most of the day honestly. Any skate shoe is usually a good driving and wearing shoe do to their flat soles and the design to have good foot sensitivity for board feel (pedal feel when driving). People looking for a wider shoe need to reconsider this. This is a band aid for poor pedal placement.

Get yourself a nice set of pedals and position them where you want them. I did this 2 years ago and was kicking myself for not having done it sooner....

How big are your feet?lol.seriously,i got a pair of new balance 574' wide, cuz i got big ass stupid feet, but they work ok for my driving style, the way i heel-toe in my b14,isnt technically heel and toe,see i dont completely rotate my foot, iuse the left half of the front of my foot and the left side and like 1/4 of my heel,i can touch the gas and brake with my foot square in between them.not sure if this will work for you yho,but its a thoght for my fellow sasquatch footed drivers.
ooh, sorry shoulda read more carefully, forzwin and jere already kinda said that

Yeah new pedals would be really nice. I have seen a few pedal sets here and there and they are like a 100 per pedal too much for me though it would be really nice

From what the driving video said that is proper heel-toe. I like it that way because I don't have to take my foot off the floor as much if at all. It isn't as hard on the knee and I can still resume my legs place on the center console sooner (to help smooth out throttle control on bumpier roads). It is harder to do it this way with narrower shoes like the Puma SpeedCats. They just seem too narrow for me this way in size 11 1/2

Yup you are good with anything from flip flops and combat boots to high heels(...well not high heels there is something wrong with you if you have those on ) with autos just keep mashing one foot on the gas and one on the brake and you are good

Pumas FTW - they're thin and you can really feel the pedals. Not just for pressure and distance judgment, but you can really feel vibrations too.
