"SR20DE RR + JWT S3Rs+SR16VE pistons+cam gears" set up
Hi all,

I intend to do this test on my current SR20DEH engine, before I go turbo.
I searched for more info, but with no success.
I'm talking about following set up (as in the title) :
SR20DEH RR engine
JWT S3R
SR16VE pistons
Cam gears

What is the best set up for the overlap - how much advance/retard for the intake/exhaust cams ?
If someone has detailed info about the S3Rs - thanks in advance.
I haven't found the cams specs on the JWT site, but never wrote an e-mail to them...

Sadly, the S3R cams are not listed on the page

And op I would run the S3R cams straight up with stock cam gears if it was me

I'm already running these cams for a year.
Good low end, but the engine "dies" in the high revs...
I have a VE engine and ready turbo set up for the RR engine, but I want to try this setup, before I go turbo.
So if there are members with some experience with high compression RR engine and S3Rs - any info is welcome!

Ive had same setup in my head. My opinion is that its possible to hit 200hp (~170whp) with right intake/header/exhaust/ecu. This will be really fun setup before going turbo. Good luck with your build.

A RR was designed IIRC to have better midrange power, hence the 6700 RPM redline. I also have S3R cams and the only way to get more top end would be a good header and a better flowing intake manifold. I would suggest going to VE springs if you want to rev higher than 7k as well. The boost in power resulting from the compression increase going to SR16 pistons would be everywhere in the power band

I am looking for mid 150's at the wheels with my setup (quality header, VE intake modified for a DE head, stock bottom end) so I would think the boost in compression should get you the 15 more to hit the 170 mark, or be real close to it.


@skydiver cam gears will allow you to move the power band up or down, but in my experience (having used S3's, S4's, S4HL's, C3's, and also the S3R's) JWT cams are for the most part dialed in already at stock cam gear settings.

Probably will try to bore the TB to 62mm, some play with the cam gears, as afaik S3Rs have only 20* overlap, which is imo more low end/torque oriented .

@happynole: EUDM Roller Rockers are different, redline is 7000 RPM or little more.

@skydiver: You can easily bore it to 64mm. Ive seen also modified stock intake manifold with 10hp gain...
