VE vs DE oil filter housing - possible issue
The DE and VE oil filter housings below accept the same (VE, RR, N16) oil filter. However, the DE oil filter housing protrudes MUCH deeper into the oil filter. The VE one stops right after the threads.

Looking into the oil filter, it looks like the DE filter housing will push right up against that protruding part inside the filter. The oil flows though the centre of the threaded part and long tube part on the filter housings.

I'm concerned that the oil may get restricted and not flow freely though the oil filter if that long tube on the DE filter pushes against that back section of the oil fitler. The old style DE/RR oil filters were quite a bit longer than these oil filters.

Does anyone have any insight into this? I'm thiking of just trimming off that long non-threaded part on the DE filter housing. I cant see that causing any problems as it will then be the same as the VE housing.

Use a 21356 filter that's a little longer or I don't see y cutting the non threaded part would cause a problem

It's been some time but when I had my DE(lowport) I don't remember that part being so long.

Trimming couldn't hurt. But I use the longer Maxima filters too.

I actually want to run a remote filter mount and oil cooler setup. The universal style kits u see on ebay fit the VE housing fine, but I suspect this DE housing may be too long. Sounds like trimming it is going to be the solution.

Here's my rear-mounted oil filter housing (sorry for the bad pics)

And a B14 side-mounted oil filter housing

I guess there's a few types of housings??? Mine doesn't have a large protruding non-threaded piece...

yeah definitely. Seeing more short ones makes me comfortable to trim that extra piece off.

The one in my pic is the DE filter housing that does not have a factory oil cooler/heat exchanger.

Highport and Lowport DE housings are different. Lowport and VE use the same exact oil filter. Is your DE housing from a highport?

Highport and lowport are different from each other, and RR and VE are the same to each other but different from HP and LP. Lowport uses a different Nissan filter than RR and VE use
