VE vs DE oil filter housing - possible issue
The DE and VE oil filter housings below accept the same (VE, RR, N16) oil filter. However, the DE oil filter housing protrudes MUCH deeper into the oil filter. The VE one stops right after the threads.
Looking into the oil filter, it looks like the DE filter housing will push right up against that protruding part inside the filter. The oil flows though the centre of the threaded part and long tube part on the filter housings.
I'm concerned that the oil may get restricted and not flow freely though the oil filter if that long tube on the DE filter pushes against that back section of the oil fitler. The old style DE/RR oil filters were quite a bit longer than these oil filters.
Does anyone have any insight into this? I'm thiking of just trimming off that long non-threaded part on the DE filter housing. I cant see that causing any problems as it will then be the same as the VE housing.
