Improving Lifters, Should I? - Andreas Miko check this thread plz
I was taking a look to an old thread on the old forum from Andreas Miko (3 kind of Lifters)

The reason i was looking this thread is because i have a Highport Head and i get for free 8 HL from a RR P11 Nissan Primera.

So this is my question, and i hope Andreas or anybody could answer it:

Should I use them to rev a little higher and/or safer? I dont have any access to a Lowport rocker arm so the only thing i can use right now are these lifters.

I add some pics so you ppl can take a look to the differences

It looks like the RR side hole is about 3mm and the highport just 1.5mm (hard to tell with the caliper)

Thanks for reading

Just out of curiousity, are both HLA's properly bled? They can fall if they're not bled correctly. You shouldn't be able to compress either, period.

If this is the case and your measurements are there, I would think that the RR HLA's are better.

The HLA in my lowport head (non-RR) looks identical to your RR HLA. Measuring it with the Mitutoyo caliper I borrowed from work, it sits at 44.75mm The oil port on the side looks to be of identical size, as well as the port on the top of the HLA.

Yeap is the case . Thanks, it looks like the lowport's one is the same than the RR. That was what i was expecting ^^

Not all Lowports have the same HL. I say get a RR HL because it is 100% sure shot that you will get the right one.

The HL from the RR with the large hole on the side lets more oil in and with the small hole on top lets less oil out. This causes the HL to not collapse as quickly. You combine this HL with a high volume oil pump and you got a high rever.

Well there is also one more mod and that is converting all the shims over to the groved shim you will need to shave the other side of the rocker arm to acomodate groved shims on both sides.

Dre,

I thought both sides of the rocker arms were already cut to permit grooved shims?

At least my rocker arms are both identical, in that they can accept grooved shims on either side.

I made that mistake of putting the grooved shims on the wrong side, and moved them back the correct way.

You need to check again. I have never seen a rocker arm that can take the groved shim on both sides. The rocker need to be belt sanded to fit the shim. You need to make an identical look or copy of the other side and it must have a little play also.

Anyway trust me it does not fit.

Maybe we can get someone to get a few rocker arms and shims and take some pictures.

I've got the exhaust cam off still, I'll snap some pictures of the rocker arms.

Get a pic of how it is on the motor and get a pic with 2 grooved shims. Set it up on the edge of the table and take a pick at the same level with the rocker sitting in it.

Andreas is correct, here is what it looks like, it needs to be shaved down just a bit to accomidate the groved shim.

Looks like an interesting setup though that would be much better for high rpm
