Highport cams swap into RR engine
Hello everyone.

I have some JWT S4 cams and dead 10:1 CR highport engine laying around and we want to put these cams in friends 10:1 CR RR engine. What has to be done to the valve train?

- cams
- springs
- rocker
- spray bars
- valves

what else? Thank you very much!

The cam base circles are tighter on RR cams. It should not be done, but you can always put a man in a gorilla suit, snap a picture, and call it Bigfoot. Doesn't mean it is right.

Duration and initial valve opening will be hurt. I think the valve height is less on a RR engine (same as a VE) which has less tolerance for coil bind further making this more difficult.

Nope. Roller rocker and lowport heads are basically the the same. Difference is in the parts listed above. Plus valves, i recently found. This swap basically transforms your RR to a lowport engine/head. Its nothing like putting highport cams in Roller Rocker.

Btw. LOL about me typed sway bars... damn you spray bars!

As well as all the bits listed I think the cam caps closest the distributer are also needed as well as the bolts that hold them as they allow oil to be fed to the spray bars in the head. Other than that I THINK that's all thats needed.

I know there is a bit of a 'how to' on the Almera owners club in ''Hally's'' trop green GTi thread from when he rebuilt his RR lowport to be a non-roller with 16VE pistons and C2 cams.

I misunderstood, sorry!

Sounds like an awful lot of work though.

Listen to Kyle, he knows what he's talking about. Advise against. Cam installs in the DE are a big enough pain as it is I know I've done about ten of them and one was a disaster

You sir are a good friend if you are willing to go through all that work. I'd just get some RR cams reground from Delta Cam.

Yeah, removing the head kind of killed that plan. Need to talk to him if he wants to go through this. Even we have cams and spare motor...
