3rd gear is sloooow... - SR20 Community Forum

So..... I was runnin last night with a couple of friends and I noticed my 3rd gear sucks big time..... Don't know if it's a normal condition on classics or de's... But I need to do something about it...
My engine is mostly stock by now and when pullin out and even in 2nd gear I had no trouble to stay in front of my friends even when they had more powerful cars but as soon as I switched to 3rd they cought up and one even passed me..... One of the cars was a spec v... I realize the gear box swap is a possibility just wanted to know if my car will wake up on 3rd gear when I make It more powerful or is there another way to address this situation..... Please elaborate.....

My sentra would romp in 3rd gear, so I don't think its a normal condition. Back in my street racing days that is where I would always get them if we were neck and neck.

What are your mods? 3rd gear is my best gear with S4 cams shifting from 2nd gear at 7500 RPM

I love my third gear even if it's super long now. 110mph in third na ftl.

i'm running a stock DE with 2.5" exhaust and prothane motor mounts... runnin on stock gear box... its a b13...

it's not like the car doesn't pull at all... it's just that i feel it could be doing better... the cars i was running against had a clear advantage to power.... one was a stock mazda speed 3 and the other one was a 2003 sentra se-r spec v with some mods... and a stock 2009 civic si...

i need an idea or tip to get more outta my 3rd gear... any ideas are welcome!!!

OK. When you say stock you mean stock intake airbox? stock header? stock cams? Because so many guys in my area say they're "stock" when they actually have I/H/E. Its funny.

Yeah I/H/E will liven up your third gear dramatically. It's nothing to do with your tranny.

Once you do some basic mods or cams you will love 3rd gear the best out of all your gears.

dude 3rd gear in my nx with the mods in my sig pulls goooood.....it needs a tune and a better clutch but it pulls reall good.....

I'm locking this. Street racing is not OK, see forum rules.

On a side note, if you really are stock, it's NO SURPRISE that these guys are beating you, because they all have more power than you. Significantly more.

My statement still stands though - it's not that third gear is slow, it's that these guys have a good bit more power than you do, even if you have I/H/E bolt-ons.

Actually the car doesn't feel slow or broken on 3rd..... I just want to have more power available in that gear.... Any particular mod to achive this?

Only way is to get more mods basically. Cams header and intake and the car will feel totally different.
