sr20ve ITB~!
Hey guys
Need some advice on my sr20de i have in my 180sx atm.
I am going the N/A route with the car and i know turbo route will be easier, cheaper and get more power but i just thought it'd be special to keep my 180 naturally aspirated like it is when it rolled off the factory floor.

Now my plan is to get the mazworx sr20ve headswap kit and hopefully have some ITB's running on them.

Whats the best way to go about doing this? What header/exhaust/standalone ecu would you guys recommend for this build.

I have done some research on the ITB's and it seems GTi-R itb is the cheapest way but it needs some fab work in order to fit. What other options do i have other than expensive tomei/ ikeya formula itbs.

The car itself at the moment is being used as a daily but i will be getting another daily very soon so it will become my weekend drift car + showcar.

The car already has suspension parts, 5stud , big brakes and manual conversion all done to it so im moving on to making some extra power from the DE.

any advice would be great!

Thanks

The gti-r's are too small, you need the M3 throttle bodies. Custom make the header 23-24 to collector should do you good. 3" exhaust and some way to tune it. N1 cams, VVL pistons and just tune tune tune tune tune tune tune tune tune tune.

Would the m3 itb's bolt on or need some adjustments.? and which head and pistons would be the best? p11 or 12?
Also would it be better to get a thicker gasket to higher the compression? I will be running 98 octane.

You need to make the adapter but the port shape and size are very close to the VE's. P12 has better cooling passages (so I have heard) but the P11 is way more plentiful than the P12. Depending on which VVL piston your going to run. Stock 2.0 P11 is like 10.1, P12 20v 11.1 SR16VE in the 2.0 close to 13.X, not too sure what the N1 piston is. as long as you have a good tune you should have to worry too much and if it's not too hot like a desert then you will also be fine. Run the Stock 20v metal head gasket and call it a day.

thanks for the tip. Guess ill be going out to buy a p11 engine very soon. p11 engines are way easier to find around my area than p12's. What ecu would you recommend? Seems like haltech or megasquirt are the obvious choice but there aren't that many haltech tuners in my area. and the m3 itbs you mean the e46 ones right? any other choice than bmw itbs?

Depends on where you live really. If you have a local tuner you like I'd check with him and see what he can work magic with. If your going to go cheap just rock a S13 SR20det harness and ecu with nismotronic. But check with them and see if the map sensor upgrade they will have will work with ITB's.

Just wanted to mention that the new firmware will support alpha N (TPS based) fueling and ignition tables.

This will make tuning ITBs with the stock ECU MUCH MUCH easier!

Here is a fuel graph of an alpha N tune I have been testing on my B14, so far it has been behaving just as expected.

The ITBs will definitely require some extensive fuel tuning when in alpha N mode, but the results will be definitely worth it!
