Front clip?
I have a friend that's got about 2K to spend on his swap right now, from a KA to an SR. I don't know if he has an auto or 5spd. I see that Tiger has a few motors, two s13's and an s14, all with 5spd tranny.

I told him his easiest/best bet is to get a front clip, just in case he needs something else, etc.

THoughts? Any pointers as to where he should look?

If he is planning more than 250whp but not more than 400whp then tell him to buy a SR20DE engine set. They can be had for <$850 shipped and he can use his stock KA harness to run it. Jhot Imports is an excellent source for them, thats where ours came from and its very clean.

I told him that, but I think he's looking to simplify the install, by dropping in the DET to begin with.

The main issue is that I think it's an autotragic, so he's going to need more than just the motor set. He's going to need the ECU for one, and then he's going to need the clutch pedal assembly as well as the other gas/brake pedal set, as well as some other mox nix stuff.

Forgot to mention, Jhot doesn't carry any DET motors, so I think that shop would be a no go.

A calum ecu would work great. A DET is more involved and complicated than a DE.

Anyway, a jdm clip isn't going to be of any use for the manual swap unless he plans on converting to rhd.

wait... why wouldn't it work for the manual swap? can't he use the clutch pedal and clutch master cylinder off the front clip?

Good points on both accounts.

Another question, if he does have a 5spd tranny... Could it be used with the DET? I can't remember if I read somewhere that the tranny was the same between the SR and KA, or at least the bellhousings were?

Sorry, my knowledge of the RWD chassis is very little. Why I came here for help

My understanding is that the 5spd swap parts are not the same between the lhd and rhd cars but I could be wrong.

The KA and SR tranny are the same, however the bellhousings are different.

BTW, here is a pic of our $750 Jhot engine set, still on the delivery pallet:

I found the DET swap to be easier with the clip as a reference, but they are harder to find these days, especially clean ones.

paNX2K&SE-R, where from? Jhot? All the redtops I see on their ebay page are around $1,700.

CAREFULL! going into DET territory can be a tedious experience if you don tknow what youre doing prior to meddling with the electronic side of the job.
there will have to be some modifications to your STOCK S13 harness. splicing and saudering. I .. on your shoes would go for the redtop DET its not all that expensive now. firstly because once you go boost you never go back :P lmao secondly if you're looking for a VERY VERY fun ride and fast. this will get you there IF YOU DO EVERYTHING RIGHT. look for the videos SR20DET swap (early copy) on ebay or on driftstore.com its basicly a legit STEP BY STEP on how to do the conversion really helpfull.

then ofcoarse theres the chaper less power way into the SR world... the NA wich is fairly simple to install anyway GOOD LUCK

P.s the 5 speed tranny that comes with the swap will do fine since ul have to mess with the harness to begin with. keep in mind AUTO and 5 speed harnesses are different just a bit. and you will need a different driveshaft. but its a DIRECT BOLT ON into the mounts
