Cruise and Horn Stopped Working - Replaced Clockspring - Still Not Working
I've been off the forum for a little while and I'm finally in a place financially to start getting the old girl back into tip top shape.

I just had her repainted and now I'm trying to troubleshoot the cruise control and horn. I know the horn works because it activates when I use the remote panic feature. The cruise light will illuminate on the dash, but not on the cluster.

Most of my research seemed to indicate a defective clockspring, so I purchased a used one from a forum member and crossed my fingers. I had to purchase the T50 'security bit' first (thanks Nissan) and installed the replacement clockspring today. Unfortunately, they are still not working and I'm back to square one and very frustrated.

Is there anyone that had the same problem or knows how to fix it? If so, please help! Thank you

I think there is a separate horn for the alarm/panic;there is another for the regular car horn.As for the cruise.....I dunno.I've always had a few of them around, and managed to avoid actual troubleshooting by swapping bits around until it worked.Clockspring seems to be the right direction, you may have to get out you meter and start testing wire by wire.UGH.

I wish I had your luck Since they are both not working, where would be a good place to start testing wires?

Thanks!

Check the horn relay under the hood on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
I'm having a similiar issue with my son's 97 SE-R, I changed his horn relay and the horn and cruise started working again for a little while then stopped just recently. This time when it stopped working we started getting a flashing air bag light, so I'm thinking clock spring now. Thanks for the heads up on the secure t50 bit, I'll have to grab one of those.

My cruise control stopped working when I put in my tsuru tails ended up being the bulbs as the culprit.

Thanks for the FSM link.

I'll check out the horn relay again and use the multimeter this time. Before you replace the clockspring, search on the airbag light in the forum. There is a simple procedure for resetting it.

The tail light bulbs are fine, but what would cause them to effect the cruise and horn?

Re: Cruise and Horn Stopped Working - Replaced Clockspring - Still Not Working
I dunno about the cruise but the horn wire is one of the ones in the yellow plug for the air bag right? I bought a car that had that plug unplugged (horn didn't work but alarm did) haven't had a chance to plug it in and try it but I figured I'd ask before I went and replaced the clock spring. Anyone verify this?

I assume this isn't your problem tho?

Yea, I've reset the air bag light several times by depressing the door switch. The light will go out for a bit then come back.
Good luck, and please update this thread if you find a fix, as I mentioned earlier I'm in the same situation as you with my son's car...thanks!

Well I'm finally on the search for a clockspring and see there are plenty of evil bay one's available for Sentras. Those should be the same as the 200sx correct? If so what years are compitble with the 1997 200sx SE-R
